It's the Tercel wagon... There is much more rust where that came from. It won't be worth it to fix. That spot I photographed is getting bigger very quickly

'Tis but a fleshwound.

Attack it early with a wire brush and a little POR15. Maybe even use plastidip over the POR too, instead of paint, so you can sand and touch up more easily down the road.

How far away is 400k?

Can't recall - is there stuff you can apply to slow down the rust? And if you're past 240K, you can let go. You've driven it to the moon.

that's pretty typical for a 1980s Tercel, especially in the north-east. Rockers, door bottoms, I even replaced the hood once the hold-down loop attachment plate rusted thru.Catch it early and do the minor body work before it becomes terminal cancer, keep the road salt washed off and it will just keep going and going...
